It nearly snowed, no joke it was that cold up on Mt Dandenong for Rachael & Peter’s Wedding on the 20th!  Tatra is a beautiful venue though and the open fireplaces were a godsend at the end of the days shooting.  When it is cold like that and we are taking the bridal party photos outside I try to get them done as quick as I can.  There are two reasons for this, firstly in winter the light fades very quickly and that is exacerbated in the Dandenongs and the second reason being the poor girls only have a dress on so I don’t want them to get too cold!

In this situation my aim is to make the shoot fun and quick, if I drag it out and the bridal party aren’t enjoying the experince then it will come out in the photos, I would rather get 30-40mins of great photos outside then let them relax by the fire for the rest of the time we have and capture some casual photos.

At the end of the day it is a couples wedding and you want to make it as fun, enjoyable (and warm) as possible for them and capture fantastic images in the process.

What a cool shoot, when Anna called me and said she had a new little baby boy that she wanted photographed I was really looking forward to it,  I had photographed Anna’s other son Jackson a few years ago and we got some really funky images.  It is always great when past clients come back and you can see how their family has grown.

Levi was born only a few days after my little girl Lola as it turns out, If you read the previous post and saw the images of Lola on the shelf, I mentioned how nervous my wife Heidi was while doing this shot.  She said to me at the time “Do you get your clients to do this” well now I can say yes, there was a very similar shelf in Levi’s room so I thought why not recreate the shot.

The shoot went off without a hitch except for the end where Levi decided to relieve himself all over his dad.

Well how time flies when you become a parent! the last few months are all a bit of a blur and Lola is now nearly 12weeks old.  Her little personality is starting to shine through and she is becoming more active and engaged each day.  She still isn’t a big fan of sleeping but that will get better I am told (I hope they are right)

As you can imagine I have taken an abundance of photos of her over the last few months, I didn’t want to blog about her too much but I have had clients, friends and family alike wanting updated pics and these ones were far too cute not to post.

I had this idea for the image below and thought it would be a great photo but it was a little more difficult to do than I first imagined.  Not because of Lola but my wife Heidi nearly had a heart attack while we were getting the shot and didn’t want to let her go! But no babies were harmed in the making of this photo!!

In what was one of the coldest windiest days in July we braved the elements and went down to St Kilda for Jo & Dan’s pre wedding shoot last  month. Despite the inclimate weather we got a great collection of stylised portraits for them to choose from and had a good chat about their upcoming wedding .  I love photographing couple portraits in winter, as you will see below they give off a romantic, fun & cuddly vibe that really is the essence of Melbourne in winter.

The pre wedding shoots continue to become more popular with our clients, not only does it help having a ‘practise’ shoot but you get some beautiful timeless images of you as a couple before the wedding day.
