Best Family/Kids Portrait 2009

In light of the success of the best wedding photo of 2009 I have decided to do the same with our portrait photos from last year.  And as we took quite a few more portraits than weddings I made it a top 25.  With my portrait work I try to capture kids and families as natural as possible and try and bring out their personalities and relationships.  I have chosen a cross section of families, babies, children and couples from the year that depict my portrait work the best.

If you saw a picture on the blog during the year that you think should be included let me know and I will add it to the contenders.  So to place your vote click on ‘comment’ at the top of the post and leave your name and comment (one per person please)  The relevant family of the winning photo will receive a $900 voucher to used towards any past or future shoots with us as a prize for winning portrait print of the year 2009.  Also those who leave a comment will go into the draw to win one of 20 $300 vouchers they can use towards portrait photography themselves so get you friends and family’s to vote!

Apologies in advance if your photos aren’t included right off – we’ve just got so many we love this year we couldn’t show everything so I have kept the initial batch down to 25 with a bit of variety between them.

    #23 and #25.
    In both shots the rule of thirds is used perfectly, the POV is great and the emotion caught in both is fantastic. The exposure on each of these pics is wicked and shows details of trees, fabrics etc.

    Great photo’s. My favourite is number 1. Not only is the little girl adorable with those dark eyes staring straight at you, I love the field of autumn leaves which look totaly undisturbed. It is like she is a cheeky little pixie who has just materialised amoungst the leaves. I also like the boarder of slightly unfocused tress. Very cute subject and a great photograph.

    There’s some great photo’s here, but number one gets my vote. It has a great balance between the focal subject (and she is just gorgeous) and the back ground. Her little feet covered in leaves adds to the cuteness element of the picture. I also think that the black and white presentation delivers a classical impact and the natural setting compliments the overall picture nicely.
