Now that all the photography awards are done and dusted I can show you my entries and how I went. All in all I was pretty happy to pick up 5 Silver awards and 1 Silver Distinction at the Victorian Awards and 3 Silver at the national Awards. This means that I have accrued enough points to become an Associate of the AIPP and now I am on my way to earning my Masters.
The prints at these awards are judged by my peers and some of the best photographers in Australia so it is a real thrill when you see your prints being awarded by these photographers. I am lucky I have such cool clients to photograph to get these beautiful images in the first place and I am already on the look out for which prints to enter next year.
The other award I was a finalist for was the ABIA Victoria Wedding Photographer of the year as voted for by brides. It is the first year I have really had a go at this one and I came 3rd missing out on top spot by 0.1%, so overall I am pretty happy but will be working hard to top it next year.
I find it really beneficial taking part in these awards as it pushes you as an artist and forces you to look at your images differently and highlights ways to improve your craft. With the ABIA awards it is voted on by my brides which is scary but my score on 99.81% tells me that they are happy with my work and that makes it all worthwhile.
