I love this time of year for portrait shoots with the changing colours in the trees and moody sky, it really adds a different element and atmosphere to the images. When I was discussing where to do this shoot with Lisa she mentioned we could do it at their property in Gruyere in the Yarra Valley. What she didn’t mention was what a cool location it was, they even had an old beat up car and a vineyard in their backyard! I was like a kid in a lolly shop.
Doing portrait shoots somewhere familiar or personal to the family really helps bring out that relaxed look and adds another dimension to the final prints. What I am essentially doing is taking a snap shot in time of a family, not only what they looked like but what they were wearing, personalities, age and interaction with each other. Doing the shoot at home also adds a nostalgic reference looking back on the images in years to come.
enjoy!
